Heat waves are causing growing health impacts. This greater occurrence of heat waves is translating into major impacts for the populations, notably an increase in the number of premature deaths caused by heat and of exhaustion and heat stroke episodes as well as in the use of emergency services. Finally, because their environment is conducive to the creation of heat islands, city residents are more at risk of suffering these effects.
